Gâteau de crème de noisette façon Kinder Bueno - Hazelnut cream cake like Kinder Bueno

I grew up in Hungary in the time of Communism, many treats were rather rare like Kinder eggs, Kinder Bueno ... etc. We would recieve these rare gifts in holiday time after someone went to Austria on shopping trips. I still rememberto this day how our eyes and hearts would light up upon seeing these treats!
And with that said, I have an aunt that is very talented at homemade cakes. She ingeniously made up this dessert for us children to satisfy our cravings for these chocolately treats!

My daughter had project in school where she needed to make a recipe at home with her family, write out the recipe and present to the class ... I thought this would be a great idea since it is easy ... something even the youngest of children can do ... and great to share memories one's own childhood ... here goes ...

Gâteau de crème de noisette façon Kinder Bueno

  • 6egg whites
  • 6 TBS sugar
  • 1 TBS oil (vegetable or something else neutral)
  • 2 TBS AP flour
  • 1/2 packet baking powder (3,5g is half packet)
  • 1/2 bottle of hazelnut cream (I used half of a 850g bottle of Nutella)
  • 1 packet of tea biscuits (I used 350g package of Bimo brand)
  • Handful of toasted and chopped walnuts (optional)

    Cream:

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1,5 TBS sugar
  • 1 package pudding (vanilla flavour) - any brand pudding that you need to cook will work here
  • 3 TBS flour
  • 10g milk chocolate, melted
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • (enough milk as per the instructions on the pudding box)
  • Chocolate shavings or chocolate vermicelli (optional)

    1. Butter a baking dish.
    2. Layer the bottom of it with the biscuits then sprinkle with the chopped
      nuts.
    3. Warm the hazelnut cream slightly so it spreadable, then spread over the nuts.
    4. With the milk, egg yolks, sugar, flour cook the vanilla pudding as per
      the instructions on the box.
    5. Once cooked, divide into 2 bowls.
    6. In one bowl, slowly add the melted chocolate.
    7. Now add the vanilla layer ...
    8. Then some more biscuits
    9. ... then the chocolate layer.
    10. Now whip the egg whites to stiff peaks.
    11. Spread over the top.
    12. Decorate with chocolate if you like.
    13. Or place this under the broiler to brown the top if you like (if you are worried about raw eggs)
    14. Now place this in the fridge to set.
    15. Once set slice and serve.

Henia, this sounds delicious. Is the pudding that you use that Nouara one they have in Ramadan?

Esalaams, You can use any pudding that you cook ... but yes I have used the vanilla flan pudding Nouara brand here. In the UK, I guess you can use custard pudding ... or Jello brands I think.
